Abstract/Summary
This article makes the case for regarding the weather forecasts produced in the Islamicate and western, Christian worlds, between the 9th and the 18th centuries, as serious applications of accepted scientific principles. An outline of the principles, and of the processes involved in making a forecast, is given, together with images of manuscripts containing relevant texts. Two almanacs containing published forecasts are also shown, and an account of the decline of the science is given.
