Abstract/Summary

The design quality of new homes and neighbourhoods remains stubbornly low but why is this case and how do we fix it? This is the subject of a major new UK-wide study by the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE), “Delivering design value: the housing design quality conundrum". Funded by RTPI and all four governments of the UK. The report examines the process of planning, designing and developing new homes and neighbourhoods through ten case studies conducted in all four UK nations. Based on these, the report makes policy recommendations for improving the design quality of newbuild homes and neighbourhoods
