Matthews, B. and Majid, N. (2020) What is it about mathematics that causes anxiety for pupils? Primary Mathematics, 24 (2). pp. 25-27.
Abstract/Summary
This small scale research study explored what it is about mathematics that causes anxiety for pupils. The research was carried out in a primary school across three year groups. Pupils used drawings to elicit insight into mathematics anxiety as well as gaining teacher perceptions through a questionnaire. The research concluded that mathematics anxiety remains an ever-growing issue in schools. However, with careful teaching and learning strategies, this can be minimised and reduced.
