Abstract/Summary

Formal syntax and pragmatics have been frequently seen as independent, even opposed disciplines, since the development of transformational generative grammar, and philosophically-oriented pragmatics. However, the rise of cognitive-relevantist pragmatics, due to the works of Sperber y Wilson (1995), Wilson y Sperber (2004), makes it possible to find contact points between both approaches to the studies of language. Both theories are part of cognitive science, and look for explanations to the studied phenomena at a subpersonal level. In this work we will try to make some of these points explicit, so that Relevance Theory can be formalized as a theory of the generativist Conceptual Intentional (C-I) component in the Language Faculty, by means of incorporation of semantic-pragmatic notions into the general framework of a semantically-oriented syntax
