Wolfel, U. (2018) Kinder Europas: kinderfiguren im nachkriegsfilm. In: Weil, F., Postert, A. and Kenkmann, A. (eds.) Kindheiten im Zweiten Weltkrieg. mitteldeutscher verlag, Halle (Saale), Germany, pp. 549-565. ISBN 9783954629763 (http://d-nb.info/1150422920)

Abstract/Summary

The chapter discusses the figure of the 'lost child' in three seminal films from the immediate post-war period - the East German production '1 2 3 Corona'(1948), the Hungarian film 'Somewhere in Europe'(1948), and the Swiss-American co-production 'The Search'(1948). The focus is on the 'lost child's' role in negotiating the post-war crisis and linking the pre-war past to the post-war present. The chapter examines differences between the films particularly those arising from the films' focus on children from victim or perpetrator groups.
