Abstract/Summary

Using the evidence of the potters' stamps, the chapter sets out the evidence for the distribution of major and minor producers of Gallo-Roman terra sigillata (samian)in Britain, Gaul and Germany, noting that the volume of finds does not appear to decline with distance from the production centre. It is argued that distribution was underpinned by the state.
