Barnett, C. (2017) The wood charcoal at Queen Mary's Hospital, Carshalton. In: Iron Age and early Romano-British Settlement at Queen Mary's Hospital, Carshalton, London Borough of Sutton. Wessex Archaeology Ltd, Salisbury, pp. 75-76. ISBN 9781874350941

Abstract/Summary

Analysis of Late Iron Age and Early Roman pits showed a heavy concentration of use of oak for fuel, industrial use and construction at the site, which likely was sourced from managed stands. Collection of chalk-loving taxa also indicates fuel collection from some distance from the site.
