Heuser, B. (2017) Les leçons des insurrections de 1775-1815 dans la littérature théorique. Revue historique des Armées (282). pp. 101-116. ISSN 0035-3299

Abstract/Summary

This article tracks the lessons learnt from the asymmetric wars of 1775-1815 by theoreticians and practitioners in Europe. It demonstrates that there was some import of ideas and values from the American War of Independence back to Europe, but particularly the Spanish Guerrilla served as a model for European thinkers. It influenced not only Prussians and Frenchmen but also Poles who debated lessons learnt and also tried to put them into practice in uprisings against the Russians in 1832 and 1848.
