Abstract/Summary

This article considers decorum in the works of Giuliano da Sangallo. It argues that the Sacristy of S. Spirito was unusually lavish when compared to most other sacristies and that its sumptuous decoration can be explained by its secondary function as a shrine housing the a miracle-working image of the Virgin Mary.
