Abstract/Summary
This chapter considers a special version of the problem of animal suffering. While attempts have been made to explain the existence of pain in a theistic worldview, little attention has been paid to other forms of suffering, such as emotional suffering. Here, I offer an examination of the forms of emotional suffering animals undergo, as well as what the roles of these states are in order to examine whether these could strengthen or weaken the problem of animal suffering.
