Abstract/Summary
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a term used in computer science that refers to machines capable of performing tasks that require intelligence when done by humans. Under AI, there are two primary methods: machine learning and deep learning. AI has four different types, ranging from purely reactive AI, which is specialised in only one field, to more sophisticated types such as self-aware AI. As people increasingly encounter AI in their daily lives, new problems that cannot be easily solved with existing laws are likely to arise. The path of suggestions to solve these problems depends on who will be liable for AI-related damages, but most importantly, on what the legal status of AI will be. The recommendations of the European Parliament concerning the legal status of AI and liability issues related to AI-related damages could serve as a guiding point when making legal suggestions. However, it should also be noted that ethics are involved. This paper offers a solution to AI liability, analysing AI personhood under European law.
