Abstract/Summary
Storm Eunice caused severe wind impacts on the UK on 18 February 2022. This article contains the first of a two-part study and shows how Eunice’s cyclone structure was well forecast days in advance, but small-scale uncertainty persisted on peak-wind location and strength. Several indications of sting-jet (SJ) activity in observations and model data are presented. The detailed analysis of Eunice’s airstream structure is left to the second part of this study.
