Abstract/Summary

During any infection or injury, inflammation plays a vital role in curing the injured tissues. However, uncontrolled inflammatory responses due to defects in pro-resolution and anti-inflammatory processes can be detrimental and lead to many diseases, including gastrointestinal, liver, lung and brain disorders. Although many approved anti-inflammatory drugs are currently in clinical use, long-term usage of anti-inflammatory drugs is associated with many side effects, including gastrointestinal toxicity and adverse effects on the cardiovascular system. Hence, understanding and advancing in the field of small molecules is a better way to tackle this clinical problem with anti-inflammatory drugs. This special issue has collectively published research and review articles focusing on inflammation and small molecule therapeutics with a larger perspective to generate ideas for future scientific and clinical research. We are hopeful that the small molecule-based therapeutic approaches discussed here will evolve more into routine clinical practice in near future.
