Abstract/Summary

Annabel Frearson reads all the words from Frankenstein (Shelley, 1831) and their frequency of occurrence. Collated within a Frankenstein database, the words have been loosely categorised according to semantics, sounds, grammar, or length of word. Frearson performs situated readings of the Frankenstein database in key locations within proximity of her London home, including: the financial City of London, Royal London hospital, Tower Hamlets cemetery, Stepney city farm, Wapping beach, London City airport. ‘Frankenstein economy’ coincides with Frearson’s production of a limited edition of Frankenstein business cards and investigates the relationship between narrative, value, and landscape within a database economy of attention.
