Abstract/Summary

The Struggle is a trilogy of three video works commissioned by Beaconsfield and developed with a range of partners to explore the impact of familial interactions on the formation of subjectivity. The springboard for each of the films are interviews conducted with people whose parents were either political activists, military personnel, or practising Catholics respectively. The three films, The Straggle (2012), Opening Up (2015) and A Glimpse (2019) are exhibited together for the first time and explore generational, familial, ideological political and social shifts between the mid to late 20th century and the early 21st century, as a negotiated and lived experience
