Abstract/Summary

This publication accompanied the exhibition and forum 'Cartographies of the Imagination' held at OmVed Gardens in London in July 2021. My display, 'The Cabinet of [Atmospheric] Curiosities' was conceived as a tool for charting multiple ways in which spatial atmospheres have been theorised and materialised, illustrating a rarely discussed history of atmospheric practice. Drawing from the fascination with curiosities cabinets—historically seen as a means of classifying and communicating knowledge through a collection of disparate artefacts—the display combined words, drawings, models, images, and objects, which constituted an assemblage of both material and discursive traces, revealing new and, at times, unexpected relationships between works written, built, or imagined in the past and the contemporary theories of atmosphere.
