Le Saux, F. (2019) The Arthurian legend in modern Breton culture. In: Lloyd-Morgan, C. and Poppe, E. (eds.) Arthur in the Celtic Languages. Arthurian Literature in the Middle Ages (IX). University of Wales Press, Cardiff, pp. 320-335. ISBN 9781786833
Abstract/Summary
Arthur does not feature prominently in contemporary Breton-language literature. The once and future king was predominantly perceived as British rather than Breton. However, the legend is appropriated by the artist, writer and novelist Xavier de Langlais (1906-1975), who merges Great and Little Britain into a single political and cultural unit under Arthur in his Romant ar Roue Arzhur.
