Abstract/Summary

A film-historical account of the making and reception of the Twentieth Century-Fox film 'Decision before Dawn' which portrayed the real-life story of a German line-crosser who volunteered to spy for US military intelligence in the final stages of the war. The piece analyses the 'good German' characters in the film, but also the political resistance which came from the US State Department, the Adenauer and Bavarian state governments, at a sensitive time of West German rearmament.
