Berkley, R. and Richards, G. (2008) GCSE Music Literacy Workbook. Rhinegold Publishing. ISBN 9781906178598

Abstract/Summary

A new approach to mastering music theory and notation, this is a book that wil help students build up their skills in an essential aspect of musicianship. Starting with the fundamentals of rhythm and pitch, leading on to understanding scales, harmony and modulation. No prior knowledge is assumed, and chapters are carefully designed to move progress gradually and build on the knowledge gained. It emphasises learning by doing, with practical aural and written exercises based on rock, pop, jazz and classical music. Many of the exercises can also be explored using music technology software. Tailor-made for anyone wanting to develop a firm grounding in music theory to GCSE level, but also a useful resource for those preparing for early grades exams in music theory.
