Abstract/Summary

A report on the state of cattle ownership and production in the former Transkei and Ciskei bantustan areas of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. Based on primary data collection in four distinct local districts and building on the empirical insights of five specialists in the agrarian economy of the Eastern Cape. Five of the eight chapters were written by Andrew Ainslie, along with chapter contributions by T. Kepe, L. Ntsebeza, and Z. Ntshona with S.D.Turner. The research was funded by the BP Southern Africa Research Scholarship.
