Abstract/Summary

Composition of urban green spaces will vary depending on the location and local conditions. It is, however, increasingly recognised that a diversity of planting choices (both in terms of plants’ composition and structure), allied with their adequate management, leads to the better provision of ecosystem services in the urban environment. |This chapter summarises information available in the peer-reviewed literature on the most common street trees, planting compositions of urban gardens and rain gardens primarily in the temperate and continental climate context. Information about the substrates, maintenance and irrigation requirements and practices within these different green space types are also briefly described.
