Abstract/Summary

As Pakistan faces increasingly severe climate induced challenges and hazards, understanding the country’s key vulnerabilities at a local level will be vital in planning for adaptation. This report summarises current and projected climate changes and key vulnerabilities at national and provincial level. It then discusses risk assessment, based on historical disaster records, province-based climate projections and other measures of risk.Key findings at a provincial level in the sectors of water resources, agriculture, health and disaster management are examined.In the context of this quantitative and qualitative data, storylines are created for each province, before current perceived barriers to adaptation are discussed and conclusions drawn. Given the large amount of reports, articles and papers written about the challenges that Pakistan is facing as the climate warms, this document provides a comprehensive synthesis to inform the development of future adaptation planning.
